I shouldn’t be blogging. Not now, of all times. But, seeing that it’s a lazy Saturday afternoon and I can’t seem to concentrate much on my work, I figured I could use a little rest. Besides, I’m not like…somebody.
Okay. Guess what? I watch Harry Potter yesterday! Oh yeah. Buuuttt. Gosh. Sadly, it was a waste of time. I would have been better off watching ‘Public Enemies’ or ‘Fighting’. I shall not elaborate for fear of being called a spoiler.
Another great thing happened yesterday too. I bought new earphones! Finally, after a few weeks of listening to only one side each time (my previous earphone could only function on one side). It’s green, by Creative, smooth and totally awesome. Okay, I get excited way too easily.
Alright. I’m off.

Imagine this.

One calm, breezy night, you are happily watching a recorded television program while sitting on the comfy living room sofa. You remain oblivious to everything but your program. That is, until your sister shouts, “Oh my god! I think that house’s exterior air- conditioning unit is on fire!”

2 things come to mind- you have been rudely interrupted while watching your program and everyone knows that is forbidden and well, there is a fire. After pausing your show, you run to the kitchen window. Your sister points frantically at the exterior air- conditioning unit and you seem to agree with her. She decides it is best to call the fire department and again, you agree. Not long after, you see it.

A bright red fire engine, with the sirens blaring and all swerving into the car park. Then, another one, followed by a police car, two police motorcycles and a special vehicle from the SCDF. Now, bearing in mind that your sister specifically told the fire department that she was unsure of there actually being a fire or not, you feel that the SCDF over-reacted. By a lot.

It was then that you were joined by the rest of your family members. Your brother was munching on potato chips while you watched the firemen stroll about, trying their very best to search for the fire while happily chatting among themselves. Your brother, for some particular reason, just cannot believe that there really is a fire. So while the fire department calls your sister to confirm the location of the fire, he whips out his handy binoculars. He took one quick look at the site of the fire, and immediately burst out in laughter. You too take a look and did the same.

You feel so silly; there was no fire! It was just three rows of hanging red discs that some Chinese sometimes put outside their houses. The light from the streets had been reflected off it, making it look like a fire .It was also blocked by laundry. Truly embarrassed, your sister apologizes profusely to the fire department but she remains indignant that it was not her fault; she just called to be on the safe side. Soon after, the firemen pack up and leave the site. As if nothing had happened, you resume watching your television program.

Amazing and laughable this story may be, but false it certainly is not, for this is a true account that I experienced for myself. And yes, this adds on to the many embarrassing moments of my life.
